Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Signs & Symptoms

Recognizing the signs and symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction is one of the first steps in both the recovery and prevention.  If  you experience any of these symptoms it would be wise to be assessed by a pelvic floor physiotherapist for a correct diagnoses so that we can work as a team of professionals to help guide you toward your goals.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF PELVIC FLOOR DYSFUNCTION

+ Accidentally leaking urine when exercising, playing sport, laughing, coughing or sneezing

+ needing to get to the toilet in a hurry or not making it there in time

+ constantly needing to go to the toilet

+ finding it difficult to empty the bladder or bowel

+ accidentally losing control of the bowel

+ a prolapse

– in women, this may be felt as a bulge in the vagina or a feeling of heaviness, discomfort, pulling, dragging  or  dropping

– in men, this may be felt as a bulge in the rectum or a feeling of needing to use their bowels but not actually needing to go

+ pain in the pelvic area

+painful sex, or

+ poor sensation or leaking during sex.
